This guide shows how to create a review widget and add it to your website so visitors see your Google rating and reviews.
Before you start:
- Review widgets must be enabled for your account (the Review widget item is in the sidebar).
- You need to be able to edit the HTML of your website pages.
- Know the domain where the widget will appear, for example
example.com.
Steps
- Open Reviews → Review widget.
- Choose the tab for the widget type: Small Badges, Medium Widgets or Comment Widgets.
- Click the New … button on the tab (for example New small badge). The editor opens.
- Enter a Widget name.
- Check the Allowed domain. It is already filled in with the most common domain of your website and your locations' websites. If the widget goes on another site, click one of the suggested domains below the field or type the domain yourself, without
http://or a path. - Choose the Widget language. Keep Auto (visitor's browser) to show the widget in each visitor's language, or pick a fixed language.
- Choose a Theme: Auto, Light or Dark.
- Optionally click Choose locations to limit the widget to some locations. Without a selection, all locations are used.
- Tick the Ratings to include in the displayed score.
- For a comment widget, set the date range, the number of reviews, Hide reviews without text, tags and the Layout. Check the result in the Live preview.
- Click Create widget.
- On the new widget card, click the Embed code icon. The Embed snippet dialog opens.
- Click Copy snippet and paste the code into your website where the widget should appear.
Check that it worked
Open the page on your website: the widget shows your rating or reviews. The widget content is cached, so changes to the settings or new reviews may take up to 4 hours to appear on the site.
Troubleshooting
- The widget does not appear on the site. The page must be on the Allowed domain. If you embed the widget on another domain or subdomain, edit the widget and change the domain.
- "Pick at least one rating". Tick at least one star rating in the editor.
- "Domain is required" or a domain format error. Enter just the domain, for example
example.com— no protocol, no path. - The Allowed domain is empty or wrong. The field is prefilled only when your client profile or your locations have a website. Type the domain yourself, or add the website to your profile or locations first.
- The widget shows in the wrong language. With Auto, the widget follows the visitor's browser language and falls back to your default language for other languages. To always use one language, edit the widget and pick it in Widget language.
- Some reviews are missing in a comment widget. Check the date range, ratings, Hide reviews without text and tag filters.
