Import locations from a file

Add or update many locations, or their special opening hours, from a CSV or Excel spreadsheet.

When you have many locations to add or update, fill in a spreadsheet and upload it instead of editing each location by hand. The same tool imports special opening hours (holidays, events) for many locations at once.

Before you start:

  • Prepare your data in a spreadsheet editor. The import accepts .csv and .xlsx files.
  • If you only want to bring in listings that already exist on Google, use Import from Google on the Locations list instead.

Steps

  1. Open Locations in the sidebar.
  2. Click Import locations — or Import special open hours to import holiday and special hours.
  3. Under Step 1, click Download template (.csv) or Download template (.xlsx).
  4. Fill in the template, one location (or one special-hours entry) per row. Keep the column headers as they are.
  5. Optional: tick Only check the file (dry run) — nothing is imported to validate the file first without changing anything.
  6. Under Step 2, drag the file onto the upload area, or click Upload file (.xlsx or .csv) and choose it.
  7. Watch the progress bar. The status changes from Queued… to Importing… and then to Import complete or Import failed.

Result

When the import finishes, the dialog shows a summary:

FieldWhat it means
Will createRows that create new locations.
Will updateRows that update existing locations.
Valid rowsRows that passed validation.
InvalidRows with errors that were skipped.

After a dry run, the summary says Dry run — the file was only checked, nothing was imported. Fix any errors and upload the file again with the dry-run box unticked.

After a real import, the locations list refreshes automatically. Changes to existing locations are sent to Google after the usual short delay.

Troubleshooting

  • Some rows are invalid. Click Download per-row error report to get a file listing each failed row and the reason. Correct those rows and upload the file again.
  • "Import failed". Check that you used the template for the right kind of import (locations or special open hours) and that the column headers were not changed.
  • The upload is not accepted. Only .csv and .xlsx files are supported. Save the spreadsheet in one of these formats.
